Chapter 5.8
Updated 15 Aug 2026 · Content
All incidents — rescues, first aid treatments, preventive actions, near-misses and injuries to members or the public — must be reported through the SLSA incident reporting system, ideally before or immediately after sign-off. Accurate, timely reporting creates an official record of the club's service, supports insurance requirements, and is a requirement of the Patrol Contract with the City of Stirling.
Critical incidents
If an incident meets the definition of a Critical Incident — a fatality, serious injury, significant near-miss, or anything likely to cause significant distress — it triggers the Club's Critical Incident process straight away. See Critical Incidents & Support.
Use equipment only for its intended purpose and in line with SLSA training and club procedures. Report any damage, loss or malfunction to the Patrol Captain immediately, return everything to its correct storage location in serviceable condition at the end of each patrol, and don't use or modify club equipment without the Patrol Captain's authority. Vehicle operators (ATV/SSV, IRB) must hold the relevant SLSA award and a current driver's licence for land vehicles.
| Term | What it means at Trigg |
|---|---|
| Patrol | All SRC/BM members are rostered to a patrol, each named after a life member |
| Substitute | A person who covers your patrol for you when you can't attend, arranged and accepted through the SLS Members Hub Patrol Swap feature |
| Deficit | The formal term for missed or incomplete patrol hours — commonly called being "hours down." You must make it up as soon as you can; see Patrol Deficit & Consequences |
| Competition Patrol Hours | The personal patrol hours SLSA requires for State and National Championship eligibility, separate from your Club obligation — at least 16 hours you personally attended during the calendar year prior to the season |
| Club Patrol Hours | Having attended (or arranged an accepted substitute for) all your allocated patrols for the season — this satisfies your Club obligation but is separate from Competition Patrol Hours above |
