Recap: 2025 Australian Youth Championships

It definitely wasn’t the start to Trigg Island SLSC’s 2025 Aussies Campaign we anticipated. After a cyclone a few weeks prior bought concerns the event might not run, to then a storm rolling through just before the first day of the Nipper / Youth events forcing a postponement of water events, it’s been a turbulent start.
Thankfully, on Day 2 of the Nipper / Youth Champs, the weather cleared and events were able to commence, with a smaller event list due to the postponement.
Of the 25 events Trigg Island athletes had entered, only 14 went ahead, with the Ironman, Ironwoman, Board Rescues, Board Relay’s, 2X1km Relay’s, and Surf Teams all not commencing.

Across these events, Trigg Island SLSC had 14 members make the finals, with 4 medals (2 Gold, 2 Bronze) being collected.
Oliver Browne won his 3rd consecutive Surf Race Australian Title, clinching the win, closely followed by Trigg Island teammate Billy Hawkes who placed 3rd. Trent Yates continued his dominance on the beach, and whilst not finishing with the this season with an Australian Title, he collected a bronze in the beach sprint.
These 3 young members featured in the U15 Cameron Relay, alongside Chris Jiang, taking out the Australian Title and coming home with the gold medal.

Our girls also had some great success, with a number of finals being made within competitive fields. Danja Worrad placed 8th in the Surf Race final, which started with 126 competitors from around Australia. On the beach we also saw success from Milla Tan & Mia Watters, who both finished 5th in the U14 & U15 2km Beach Run.

With the Youth events now complete, we look towards the Masters, who will race on Monday 31st of March & Tuesday 1st April, before the Open events start.
Congratulations to all our athletes in the Youth Events, we’re incredibly proud of the success you’ve had this season, and look forward to what lies ahead.
