2024 SLSA Coach of the Year – Andrew Mosel

Andrew Mosel - SLSA Coach of the Year 2024

Congratulations to our Head of Athlete Development and Coaching, Andrew ‘Mozzie’ Mosel, who on Saturday night was recognised as Surf Lifesaving Australia’s Coach of the Year.

Mozzie is a well known and respected athlete in Australia, who competed in the Uncle Toby’s and Nutrigrain Ironman Series over 6 seasons, and a SLSWA Sporting Hall of Fame member, is now admired as one of Australia’s premier coaches. Taking his experience as an athlete and using it in his coaching and mentorship to guide athletes of the future.
Under Andrew’s leadership, our club won back-to-back WA State Championships, with last seasons 871 point win a record breaker. His structured training programs have been pivotal in the dominance of Trigg, particularly in the board events, where we won 14 individual and 10 relay medals at the 2024 SLSWA championships. In addition to this our women’s teams swept all board, Cameron, and Taplin relays across multiple age groups.
Continuing on from the clubs success at a state level, Mozzie had athletes win gold at the 2024 Australian Championships, in both the U14 Male Surf Race, and U17 Female Board Relay.

Beyond his achievements in surf sports as a coach, Andrew has worked tirelessly in supporting the development of fellow coaches, through workshops such as ‘Coach the Coaches’, and his individual mentoring to those less experienced.
Mozzie continues to strive in his self development as a coach, a mentor, and as an individual, this year pursuing certifications like the Performance Coach accreditation, where he is the only coach in Western Australia (so far…) with this accreditation.

As an organisation we are beyond grateful that we have Andrew working with us, building our community up and elevating both coach and athlete performances at Trigg Island.

We’d also like to extend a congratulations to our Trigg Island Silver Salties program, represented by Club Administrator, Bronwyn Meldrum, and Community & Partnerships Coordinator, Sam Starr, nominated for the 2024 Community Education Program of the Year.
Whilst our Salties were not winners on the night, we see the program as a continual win for the community. The Trigg Island Silver Salties have had exceptional growth since its beginnings in 2021, now facilitating fitness, swimming, and yoga sessions for 170+ members of the broader community over the age of 65.

Congratulations to our Salties group for being nominated, we are forever proud of the community, and how together we’re building a better platform for all within our organisation.

Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club acknowledges the traditional owners, the Whadjuk People of the Noongar Nation, of the beach on which we work and play. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and are grateful for their continuing connection to the land, sea and sky.
