SLSWA Awards of Excellence 2024 Award Recipients

We are beyond excited to announce our winners from the 2024 SLSWA Awards of Excellence, which was held mid-June at the Crown Towers. Across 20 award categories, Trigg Island SLSC had 19 members / programs be recognized as finalists, this is an incredible feat, and one that proves as evidence to our success as an organization. From the 19 finalists, 3 were recipients of awards, including Jake Smith who has now won the Athlete of the Year for a second consecutive year!
Read on to learn more about our amazing award recipients.

Coach of the Year: Andrew Mosel
Mozzy is diligent in his approach to coaching, working with the athletes pushing them to be their best and set the standard of elite athletic performance.
On top of his work with athletes, Moz also empowers the coaches of the future to enhance their skills, and contribute to the clubs success.
With Andrews passion, drive, expertise and unwavering commitment to the club and it’s athletes, there has been a huge impact on our surf sports program, which is evident in the performances of our community.

Athlete of the Year: Jake Smith
Despite being set back by injuries late last year, Jake has gone on to compete at a state, national, and international level, after competing in the World Cup in Germany.
At the 2024 SunSmart WA Surf Life Saving Rescue and Surf Championships and the Pool Rescue Championships, Jake took two individual gold, and a bronze, as well as contributing to five gold and three bronze as a member of Trigg Island teams.
He then went on to win 6 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals at the Australian Pool Rescue Championships across both individual and team events.
Jake is a back to back winner of this awards, and he was also the winner of the 2023 Surf Lifesaving Australia Athlete of the Year award, presented in Sydney at the 2023 SLSA Awards of Excellence last November.

Community Education Program of the Year: Trigg Island SLSC Silver Salties
Our Silver Salties program caters to the over 65 community, offering a range of activities and social events that promotes healthy aging and engagement. It’s a program we are incredibly proud of, and have seen a rapid growth within, as we now have over 172 participants (and rising!) engaging in one or more of the multiple activities available. Finalists in the category for a 3rd consecutive year, the win was the epitome of “third times a charm”.

Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club acknowledges the traditional owners, the Whadjuk People of the Noongar Nation, of the beach on which we work and play. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and are grateful for their continuing connection to the land, sea and sky.
