Silver Salties Named the Community Education Program of the Year!

The Trigg Island SLSC Silver Salties program, were named the 2024 SLSWA Community Education Program of the Year on Saturday night, at the 2024 SLSWA Awards of Excellence. Finalists in the category for a 3rd consecutive year, the win was the epitome of “third times a charm”.
Established and designed off the Surf Lifesaving Australia Silver Salties framework, Trigg Island SLSC adopted the program in 2021.

The program caters to community members over the age of 65, and offers participants an opportunity to be engaged within multiple activities, and also promotes a social outlet.
Currently we have both Summer and Winter programs for our Salties members, with programming including the following activities:

  • Yoga (Summer / Winter)
  • Walk & Talk (Summer)
  • Beach / Indoor Fitness (Summer / Winter)
  • Body Boarding (Summer)
  • Swimming (Winter)

Most sessions are finished with a morning tea, with the tea, coffee and biscuits provided, furthering the participants experience, and allowing for further social engagement within the group.
By continuing and now offering more opportunities, our program provides an outlet for its participants, and sees a flow on effect to community services; helping to improve and maintain mental health, strength, stability, a social connection and fitness, the benefits to participants are huge.

Currently our Trigg Island Silver Salties caters to over 172 participants and continues to grow. We are passionate about the inclusion and promotion of healthy aging within our community, and continue to push and develop the program to offer more.

Silver Salties is a free program provided by our organisation (with the exception of the yoga sessions which incur a small fee) and is open to anyone over the age of 65, you do not have to be an active member of Trigg Island SLSC to join.
