Going in to the final weekend of the Fuel to Go & Play WA Surf Lifesaving Championships, we knew a David vs. Goliath effort was needed to overcome the live results top leading team, for Trigg Island SLSC to clinch their 10th consecutive Champion Club title. Whilst we just fell short, our members and competitors proved that when it comes to water / ocean events, we are a dominant presence and a leader in surf sports, acquiring 499 of our total 788 points in the Ocean events alone.
Hosted by City of Perth Surf Lifesaving Club, who are celebrating their centenary, the 2025 Fuel to Go & Play WA Youth / Open Championships was a massive final weekend of competition here in WA, with the next big calendar event being The Aussies, to be hosted over in Queensland in just over 2 weeks time.
Our competitors left it all out on the sand, with an incredible series of results, which proved the strength of our team, the capabilities of our coaches, and camaraderie amongst our athletes, who day in and day out, continue to push one another to be their best selves. Whilst it’s hard to pinpoint any one performance, as they were all so good, there was a number of events in which need honorable mentions. In the Open Female Board Race, Trigg Island SLSC had a clean sweep on the points taking out 1st through to 6th place, even more impressive was seeing our girls take a clean sweep of the top 10 spots, placing from 1st to 9th!
In what is deemed THE event of any surf sports carnival, The Taplin, our members had tremendous success, with the Open Female teams finishing in 1st,2nd, and 3rd, and our Mixed Taplin Teams finishing 1st & 2nd.
If we were to continue writing all the standout moments from the weekend, we’d be writing a book!
We at Trigg Island SLSC, are incredibly proud of our competitors, our coaches, and the supporting families and volunteers who continue to give for our organisation. Of course, we are also incredibly lucky, to have Coach Andrew Mosel at the helm of the Surf Sports Program, whose passion and dedication to his athletes and coaches is a key driver in the continuing success of our Surf Sports Area. We hope that all our athletes and coaches are now getting a well earnt rest, before we ramp up in preparation of the 2025 Australian Championships.
