From the 27th to 28th of April, our Masters team took to the beaches of Trigg Island and Scarborough to compete at this years Australian Championships. With 221 Events to compete in across beach and surf, there was plenty of opportunities for our team to push Australia’s best, and make a statement by finishing in the Top 3 for Australia, which they certainly did.
Within these events Trigg Island SLSC had 98 finalists, 8 gold medalists, 8 silver medalists and 9 bronze medals. This tally doesn’t include the medals won in Standup Surfing, which also added points to our overall score, pushing our club into 3rd position.
Standout performers for Trigg included “Nipper” Master Rochelle Mckee, a young gun who finished the Aussies with 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals, as well as finding herself compete in a total of 9 finals. Tim Carr proved to be Trigg Islands master of the sand, finishing the week with a 2 silver medals from the beach sprint and beach relay, as well as compete in 4 finals of beach events. We also need to commend Trigg’s champion golden swimmer, Michael Cook, who won 2 national titles in the 2km ocean swim and surf race in his respective age group.
With so many finalists and podium placers, Trigg finished in 3rd place for overall masters club champions with 225 points, just 10 points behind 2nd placed North Bondi, a massive effort to finish 3rd amongst so many clubs competing.
