The Trigg Island Youth division comprises the Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19 age groups. This is an important transition period from the Junior division to the Senior and open divisions of the club. The Under 15’s groups consists of youth in the 14-15 year age group with some activities including the Junior Divisions Under 14 group to further assist the transition to the Senior Club. The
Lifesaving & EducationFormal lifesaving training starts at 13 years of age with the Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and once completed our new lifesavers are allocated to one of the Trigg Island Beach Patrols and guided in further “on the beach” training by our more experienced lifesavers. At the age of 15 our Youth can complete their Bronze Medallion and once completed there is a large range of opportunities and training to further advance your lifesaving skills. Many of our Youth discover the skills learned in Bronze and lifesaving training are well sort after in the work place and are a distinct advantage in getting the best summer vacation jobs. Competition & TrainingIn the Youth age groups the competition arena expands with the introduction of long boards, surf skis, surf boat rowing, and IRB (inshore rescue boats, winter comp only) racing. Lifesaving events such as the traditional Rescue and Resuscitation competition, plus first aid and champion patrol competitions become available to our Youth members. During this transition period our youth members will be exposed to all the competition areas but will tend to specialist in one or more disciplines or simply become patrolling member and use the competition training to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle. Youth Management StructureThe Trigg Island Youth division is guided by the Youth Committee with input from the Trigg’s Board of Management plus the Lifesaving, Education and Surf Sports divisions. All our managers are parents of Youth members and have the roll of guiding our young members through the various pathways to become successful surf lifesavers and surf sports competitors. 2010 /2011 Youth Committee
Several Youth orientated events run throughout the season which relies heavily on help from parents of the Youth members. We encourage our Youth parents to become involved through both direct management on the beach or just to support the various competition, lifesaving and social events through out the season. |
